  1. Hi my name is Carol Hernandez and a few years back I was a Biologist working to rear and release the weevil call Cyrtobagous salvinia. We reared the weevil in tanks in some greenhouses in Imperial Ca. Then released them in different sites in an outlet of the Colorado river along the Arizona California borders. Then took monthly samples of these sites to monitor the population growth of these weevils and the amount of damage that the weevil caused to the Salvina. The only problem was they were also spraying chemicals to rid of the Salvinia at the same time which just killed the top layer of the Salvinia and the weevils. I learned that it may take a little time to get the weevil population going but once they are established they are there until the Salvinia is dead. Once the Salvinia is established you will never rid of it completely and you cant spray forever so it is much better to use the weevil to keep it under control. The leader of this project was Earl Andress of the USDA. It might help to get hold of him for help.
